I realized today, we do not know life. What is life? It's not just humans, but animals, plants, everything. Sitting here is wasting life. Go make music and love

Thankful

I just recently started to thank people in band that I have on Facebook... I found my health and my attitude have greatly improved. Just because I posted something nice. Even better where the replies. This is great to feel nicer. I encourage people do this more often just to create this atmosphere of humans showing love. It was the Beatles who popularized the idea of "All You Need Is Love". Maybe it is.

TEACH FOR GOD'S SAKE! TEACH DAMN YOU!

Look, If you don't want to teach stand down and give us a project not half a tree that:
a.) Can't write on
b.) Just so you don't get to teach any further than 5 slides on power point
c.) Track/cheer takes your priority.
I have other classes I could be working on rather than doing someone's mediocre job. You don't want to teach, I don't really care. Teachers are really either into it or don't care. When you go into this low paying unappreciated job, know your reasons why. All the portfolio grades so you can bundle up a bunch of papers and say "Well I stayed up till 12 grading them". I stayed up till 2 writing it so you could TEACH me what was good and what lacks. Give me projects and papers since I'll be piled with them in college. Come on now!

How to Obtain Perfection in Band

What is perfect? Something that is unobtainable. But students in the South Paulding Band would tell you it doesn't stop them. Recently the Spirit of South Paulding's Wind Ensemble (Top band), Symphonic band, and Concert band (the lowest)all received straight 1's and superior ratings at GMEA's LGPE Festival. Also, as their first time taking three bands. A first for any Paulding County school. It was the 5th year straight the top band has received a superior rating (the school has been open for 5 years). Monday March 7th, Wind Ensemble played and dreaded the score because they sounded so off. "Not our best, but the best can't always be on stage", Said Lauren Graham, a Clarinet. The stage was harsh on tubas, trombones, and trumpets. So how did we do it?

1. We have players willing to practice and wanting to sound better.
2. We are trained to listen and adapt as well as watching our directors (Christopher Carr & Mitch Roberts)
3. We have rules applied to Sight Reading that we follow almost religiously since the program first started.

3 Rules to Sight Reading:
1. Rhythm is the most important.
2. Don't stop.
3. Don't play wimpy.

Each rule can be implied in everything you do. In fact we do. The concept first came from Eric Slay. The first Director of Spirit of South Paulding. With these rules and determined players, our program will continue to grow and learn.
Now I'm mobile!

The Destructors

The Destructors is an interesting story about the irony of destruction being form creativity. In the mid 1950’s, the Wormsley Common Gang has a change of protagonists as they dismantle a house from the inside out. The gang does not even touch the money as T and Blackie burn Thomas’s, the owner of the house, savings. This is purely for Trevor to prove he belongs even though he leaves Mr. Thomas homeless though done so in a clever plan.
The setting in the Destructors takes place in a two hundred year-old house that amazingly is held up by nothing other than a wooden cork shaped staircase. The role of the staircase is to access other floors and act as the main support for the house by using “opposing forces”. By the end of the story, the house came crashing after the lorry driver pulled a wooden strut from the staircase.
The rising action is the difficult demise and disassembly of the behemoth of a house. Floors were torn apart and struts were destroyed on the way down floor-by-floor as each level collapsed. Everything was taken apart and flooded, but only the windows were left because the forgotten about them. The only act left was to pull the wooden strut in the staircase and watch the house implode.
Trevor, or T, in the Destructors is trying to prove his worth after losing his popularity. His father was a great architect and his mother was snooty. Like all the boys, T wanted to prove his worth by devising a plan to implode Old Misery’s house without stealing and looting. This shortly puts him in charge as the head until he has to speed up the process. After Old Misery returns and is locked away, control is distributed between Blackie (the original gang leader) and T.
The tone in the Destructors is one full of awe and malicious. A group of kids managed themselves in an organized fashion so that tools were provided and distributed, a plan was laid and followed, and they succeeded to collapse the building and home of Mr. Thomas. The cleanliness of how smooth the Wormsley Common Gang worked. They efficiently and purposely destroy a relic of history and a man who trusted Trevor and left him homeless.
The form of destruction can and is a form of creativity. Trevor simply removed the floors and removed the staircase holding the house together. The amount of damage proved T was capable and an intellectual member to the gang. Old Misery was maliciously left homeless after losing a two hundred year old house that seemed invincible to a war, but not a small child.

Congrats!

Congrats to South Paulding Wind Ensemble for GMEA LGPE Festival. These group of kids and ensemble have gotten all 1s and superior ratings 5 years in a row since the school itself has opened. Tomorrow the concert and symphonic band compete at festival. Good luck!
